The Inspiration and Impact

Kelly’s inspiration and passion for youth development was sparked early, thanks to the powerful influence of her mother, Zella Landry —a lifelong educator who believed deeply in the value of discipline, compassion, and accountability. Her mom used to say, “Life is about choices—every one of them matters and have consequences.”  That simple truth stuck with Kelly and shaped her belief that success isn’t something that just happens—it’s built through faith, intention, hard work, and the choices we make every day.

Now, as the founder of S.M.A.R.T. Sports, Kelly carries those lessons forward, helping young people make thoughtful, empowered decisions that open doors to brighter futures. She believes in meeting kids where they are and giving them the support, encouragement, and tools they need to not just imagine a better future—but to build it.

S.M.A.R.T. Sports was born from Kelly’s desire to create the kind of impact she saw her mother make in the classroom. Growing up, she watched students’ lives change because someone believed in them—and that vision is at the heart of everything we do. Grounded in a commitment to excellence, the organization helps youth dream big and stay on course through academic support, character development, and the life skills that set them up for long-term success.
Blending the values instilled by her mother with the grit and perseverance she learned as an athlete, our team has built more than just a nonprofit—we’re creating a movement that’s changing lives, one young person at a time. Through S.M.A.R.T. Sports, we are dedicated to investing in a future full of promise and possibility.

Recognizing the power of education and sports to impact life chances, opportunities and outcomes for youth, SMART Sports has created an educational project-based curriculum adapted to multiple learning styles. We incorporate opportunities to learn, practice and enhance knowledge and skills in math, science, art, reading and technology to inspire lifelong learning and health through sports and educational initiatives. We seek to create pathways to success with sports and academic enrichment as we address existing educational disparities and community issues.
